Thanks for checking out the website. I know it is a bit thin at the moment, but it’s going to grow, I promise. I will add content as quickly as I can so you have another resource to turn to and learn from.
The information I will provide here will, I hope, help you to prepare for what is coming. Things are going to get challenging. We all feel it. We are all going to need to take on more than we ever have. And that is stressful. It is especially stressful if you are just starting now. That’s OK, you’ve decided to start. That is the hardest part.
I am no expert. I am just an average guy.
I don’t live on 10 acres in the middle of nowhere. I live on 2/3 of an acre just outside a small city. It’s just rural enough that I have to occasionally chase the bear away from the trash barrel, but still only drive 6 minutes to the grocery store. I have a garden, but right now a third of it is covered in mint.
I don’t have a bunker disconnected from the grid running on full solar power. But I have a generator and an old Weber grill. If the power goes out, I can get by.
I don’t have pallets of freeze dried food. I have some very basic kitchen skills, basic recipes, and basic ingredients stored with a vacuum sealer from Target sitting on shelves from Walmart.
What you will find here is an accounting of what has worked, what hasn’t (don’t plant mint near your vegetable garden kids), and why I think that being prepared to cook a good meal for your family is the best thing to focus on when the rest of the world is going bonkers.
I have one favor to ask: Tell me what you want to learn about. Hit me up on Flote (https://flote.app/user/PreparedToCook) or shoot me an email at preparedtocook@pm.me. If I don’t know something, I’ll tell you, but I will also try to learn about it, and that will help us both.
